Payment from HK to Italy in USD

Hi Friends, specially located in Hong Kong.

In a simple payment to be executed from Hong Kong to Italy in USD, a company received the following message from the buyer:

-Actually, the payment transition from HK to Europe base on USD, bank of HK must transit the payment to the bank of USA which stay in Europe(middle bank) first, then the middle bank will send the amount to your bank account and provide the details of middle bank to us. Because our bank need to have the details of your middle bank, then they can go full the payment-

I'd like to know is it is true or is a misunderstanding?

i think its normal. i have seen cases like these before. i guess this somehow facilitate the payment procedure.
