FOB with LC at Sight

Dear Experts

We are going to have deal of 10 Containers of 40 HC with a buyer on LC at Sight. The buyer wants to take material on FOB basis and he would manage the ocean Freight himself. We just need to load the material on the containers and deliver to Rail Yard.

The problem is that I am confused how and which documents shall be negotiated on FOB terms with LC at Sight? I mean if all loading is done on FOB basis and he is managing the ocean freight, then what security we would have for the Cargo since we would not have the BL? And most importantly, What documents we should ask them to call in the LC?

Please let me know how this transaction should be handled?

regards

Hi Pal,

probably a multimodal transport document will suffice.
When delivering goods to rail yard you will receive a MTD
and present it, with other documents, to the nominated
bank in availment of l/c.
FOB without place and Incoterms 20XX has not meaning,
Place of receipt-port of loading and port of discharge may
be requested if the container is delivered to a Rail Yard,
assuming that this place is an inland place.

FOB terms does not mean the shipper will not be able to get the original BL against surrendering the stuffed containers. You may want to confirm that with the loading agent
