Dear Experts,
In L/C transactions, many bill of lading is stipulated to indicate the shipping agent (name, adress, tel) at port of discharge or port of destination. Our customer gets difficulty in providing those information on bill of lading because his shipping company has no agent at port of discharge, but in another country. I would like to ask your opinions that if bill of lading can show the shipping agent in another places other than port of discharge, even another country other than import country? Thank and best regards.

Hi Pal,

As per ISBP E23 it is not necessary that the Ship Agent be located at discharge port, but
must be quoted. Probably it will operate by correspondent at that port.

Agree with Mr picant, as per ISBP E23, the shipping agent need not be the one that is located within the same country as that of the port of discharge. So, the shipping agent may be located anywhere in the world

E23 or F21 under ISBP refers, either one is applied for Ocean B/L or N/N sea waybill.
In case L/C called for Charter party B/L, can the concept apply for it, and why?

Hi Pal,

I dare say that the Shipping Agent for C/P is the seller or the buyer who signed the C/P agreement,
Probably goods will be discharged without presentation of original bills of lading, via instructions directly sent to the vessels master.

If LC call for shipment advice indicates the agent at discharging port, may it be acceptable if Charter Party B/L show port of discharge at Koh Sichang, Thailand whereas the shipment advice shows the agent is located in Bangkok, Thailand?

If accept, why? Any rules on ISBP is to support ?

Thanks

Hi pal

It's still considered to be acceptable

ÍBP E5 said that the agent may not be at discharge port. So it could be think that the agent can be anywhere not neccesary at the discharge port
