Definition of Partial Shipment

in the background of questioned asked on partial shipment, i would like to know whether there is a formal definition of partial shipment or not?
does partial shipment means that shipment can be made in parts or does it mean that short shipment is allowed.

UCP Article 40B states: -
Transport documents which appear on their face to indicate that shipment has been made on the same means of conveyance and for the same journey, provided they indicate the same destination, will not be regarded as covering partial shipments, even if the transport documents indicate different dates of shipment and/or different ports of loading, places of taking in charge, or despatch.

Hi Pals,

IMHO, partial shipment means that the quantity of goods covered by l/c could by shipped in two or more different despatch.
It depends on the contract signed by the parties specially when the whole quantity must be splitted in more than one container or packing unit.
The risk of inserting such clause; partial shipment allowed, may bring to the fact that with a short shipment the seller will not complete the full supply.
Viceversa by prohibiting partial shipment the seller risks not to find a proper embarkation on the same vessel.
I observed a credit, proposed to a seller, changed few times, to find a correct loading the container to exploit any space.
