CIP versus CIF

Post by MIA19 » Wed Mar 10, 2010 1:22 pm

Hi,
can anyone explain me why in situation where there is deinfed Place of receipt: inland place, Port of loading and Port of discharged it is better to have CIP rather than CIF since both sales terms as named place of destination include the same-Port of discharge
thanks
regards

very simple, CIF is used when there is only transportation concerning waterway( sea or inland waterway)utilized. While CIP can be used in any mode of transport(air , road, water).CIP is often used in multiple modes of transport.

CIP vs CIf

I totally agree with the last post. CIF may only be used for shipments by sea (CIF ... named port of destination) and CIP (CIP .... named place of destination) for all other forms of transport including multimodal. The above in brackets are the formal descriptions as per ICC Incoterms 2000 publication.
