a party signing on behalf of carrier should be a NAMED AGENT
a master must sign as master and not for or on behalf of other party even that party is the carrier

Hi

If carrier is identified in BL master can sign as " Bill as master"
If carrier is not identified in BL master must sign as " Bill as a master for carrier XYZ"

Please correct me if I am wrong

all other comments are welcome

best regards

interesting question indeed. in my opinion its should not be acceptable. when a master sign a document, it should on its own capacity and not for another. only an agent can sign for the carrier and i believe there is a lots of legal difference between a master and an agent. while im saying, i have some hazy idea of the industry practice. for carriers who are in fact time charterer of a vessel have their own crew. so a master may not know the vessel name.

ridiculous idea. the bill of lading must have the name of vessel. hummm..not acceptable
