Hy Praveen,

Seaway bill is a transport document for maritime shipment which serves as evidence of the contract of carriage and as a receipt for the goods, but is not a document of title. The sea waybill indicates the on board loading of the goods and can be used in cases where no ocean bill of lading and no other document of title is required.

Beside that, Sea way bill is non-negotiable document, where B/L is quasi-negotiable document.

Best,
Gega

Seaway bill and bill of lading.

Hi Praveen
If a Bill of Lading is Straight consigned then bill of Lading looses its quality of title and negotiability.
* In this situation how it will be treated as both the cafeterias of B/L and nonnegotiable seaway bill are same.
* And how will it be examined under article no. 20 or 21 under UCP 600.

Hi,

They are not the same documents. I think that applicant provided beneficiary an option to choose.

"seaway bill and /or Bill of lading" means that both will be accepted under the credit, beneficiary may present one of them.

regards.

Hi Praveen,

Also please note Non-negotiable sea way bills are essential for short duration journeys as negotiable bill of lading will take time to arrive for clearance of goods.

Hi praveen,

It should be seaway bill or bill of lading not seawaybill and / or bill of lading.
